Gaelic Football in Ardscoil na Trionoide
Gaelic football in Ardscoil na Tríonóide has enjoyed great success in the past decade. From competing and winning silverware at a very high level and helping to produce some of the leading footballers for both Kildare and Laois, football has been a leading light in the recent history of the school.
Teams compete at juvenile, junior and senior level. The 2017/2018 school year has seen no silverware return to the school so far but has shown huge promise for the future with the junior team narrowly losing a south Leinster semi-final and a very promising group of juveniles in first and second year. There are numerous players currently in the school representing their respective county teams at underage level and the school has played and continues to play a big role in their development. These young footballers along with many others will continue to make Ardscoil na Trionoide competitive in the future and hopefully they will continue on to be the future stars for their clubs and counties. Some of those who have shone while representing our school this year include Sean Moore, Josh O’Brien, Oisin O’Rourke, Chris Chanders, Niall Coffey, Adam Griffith, Killian Horan, James Mcgrath, Cathal Kennedy, Conor Kelly and Cormac Murphy to name just a few. These players come from a variety of clubs in the surrounding area and our teams always consist of a number of players from various clubs making competition for places on the teams extremely tough. Players make a massive effort to maintain a strong and successful tradition in our school. They follow in the footsteps of several current county footballers such as Kevin Feeley, David Hyland, Niall Kelly and Laois’ Gary Walsh as well as many other former county players. Those players have helped the school to great success including 5 Senior South Leinster League ‘A’ titles since 2008.
Teamwork, discipline, effective communication and hard work are prized skills in the modern world and help prepare our students for life after school. Playing football allows them to develop and improve these skills and values so they can become more complete and rounded individuals in the future.
It is hoped that the near future will see our current footballers follow in the footsteps of those that have gone before and see the return of even more silverware to the school.
The u14 girls footballers at a blitz recently.
The girls acquitted themselves very well against teams from Gorey, Wexford town and Hacketstown.
They played 4 matches in total, with each of the 24 girls who traveled representing Ardscoil na Trionoide excellently.
Well done girls!
