School Book Grant Allocation for Students in Need of Assistance
Each year the Department of Education allocates a grant to this school to enable us to give assistance towards the purchase of school textbooks for students in need (guidelines can be viewed here). The level of assistance available depends on the number of students eligible for support, the course being followed by the student and the level of the grant which the school receives. The book grant is not available for students in Transition Year 2022-2023. As the majority of books are purchased in 1st and 5th Year, the grant will be administered for these years in the main. This year, we will issue Book Vouchers which can be used in All Books Bookstore in Portlaoise.
Where a new book is added to the booklist for 2nd, 3rd or 6th year an application may be made for this book(s).
Families who may need assistance may appreciate financial assistance because of:
• Unemployment.
• Prolonged illness of a parent
• Large family size with inadequate means
• Single parent family
• Other family circumstances which would indicate financial hardship
Please note that entitlement to a medical card does not necessarily indicate eligibility.
The Principal must be satisfied that the claim is genuine. Requests for assistance in the purchase of school books must be made before 24th June 2022 on this form Book Grant Application Form 2022-2023. Applications submitted by any other means outside of this form will not be considered.
• Fill out this online form and submit
• Your application will be processed by the school
• You will receive a confirmation email indicating if your application was successful
Given the sensitivity of this issue, I want to assure you that all applications will be treated with respect, fairness and in confidence.
